Big Changes Afoot!

The Mirafiori site has gotten bigger, and I have changes planned that can not be implemented as long as I house the site at a big Commercial Provider. The additions I have, and addl. disk space cost me monthly anyway, so I have a new alternative:
Build a Server, and co-locate it!

My experience at NapaNet has shown that a fairly stong PC structure can support moderate to large Web sites when you use Linux, and this Server will allow all kinds of additional features, like:

I have plans to include features like an automated Tip Submission interface, better Forum features, and generally flesh out the site with more information, photos, and the like. Hard Drives are inexpensive, and we can add storage as needed, and keep this resource dynamic. I truly look forward to the day when more content is written by all of you, and this Server will allow those of you that maintain your own Sections to come in and maintain them yourself!

This project will not be enormously expensive. I plan to build a Pentium 133/166, 32m of RAM, 1-2 gigs of disk, and a nice Ethernet card. Linux is free, and so are most of the programs I will be installing to facilitate the project.

So, the big QUESTION,

Are there any among you that have used this Page, believe in it, and have the resources to throw a few bucks in to help build the machine? I have housed the site at my cost for over two years, and I've never asked for any money- I did this because this is a labor of Love, and the monthly charges were not difficult to manage over time. However, this will require a bit of capital, and it might take me some time to amass the funds necessary. I want to build the machine TOMORROW!

Please take this in the proper spirit. Once we have enough to get things rolling, I will update this Page & let everybody know where we are. I never intend to pocket a penny from the Page, and I will not seek donations for this project beyond what is absolutely necessary.

Donations, however small, can be sent to:

So, there it is. Help as you can, write content as you can, and let's continue with the Primary Mission behind this project:

An enthusiast resource, by and for it's users.
