I had an old Abarth muffler on a parts car that was falling apart, but the tips seemed like they may be worth saving for a future project. A quick and easy way to clean up old oxidized chrome is to rub it out with some fine steel wool. It may leave some very small scratches in the surface but it's a lot better than leaving it rusty, and is a lot less work than polishing with compound.
