Re: New 1969 Spider Project

Those plug wires hit the trash can. I was never a fan of these over-colorful things. The original Cavis green wires can still be had.

Re: AS Spider Vapor Recovery? What is this?

Well then it was installed correctly, mine does the same. I expected to find some valve or canister in the fender and there isn't one. The hose isn't in the microfilm but there is a reference to a change in the filler neck that does away with the tube.

AS Spider Vapor Recovery? What is this?

Anyone else with an early Spider that has this vapor or fuel circulation contraption on the filler neck? My early 69 has it, my late 69 does not.

What you're looking at below is the fuel filler cap (left) and the hardened lines leading to small ports on the neck.

Re: Brake Booster Leak?

It will be easier to replace the booster and the master st the same time. And yes the booster is leaking.

Re: 44IDFs on a 1438

Carl - Absolutely trying to justify having them, plus Andy hogged out a waffle top for them, making them hard to resist. The venturis are choked down to increase air velocity, which needs to be high when using a large carburetor on a smaller engine. Mike - I agree. Even ancient posts on Mirafiori re...

Re: Slam the hood?

I've taken the latch off the car and cleaned it thoroughly, usually through immersion in kerosene overnight, and very lightly oiled it afterward. Along with the door latches this seems to make the biggest difference in their smooth operation (i.e. on the 69 the passenger side door required one to ph...

Re: New 1969 Spider Project

FUGLY engine bay. At some point in time the engine was removed, the engine bay and motor and everything in it painted black (everything, even the bottles and hoses), then the engine was reinstalled. It has oversized pistons and corroded bores. Seems to have run never after the rebuild, just reinstal...

44IDFs on a 1438

Discuss. I know the "they're too big" argument already. My thought is that a small venturi - 28 or 30 - will create enough air velocity to make them work, and they'll be jetted down some, but if it works should increase the torque and just be a lot of fun.

Re: Is this idle OK?

The speed masks any issues but it seems to me it has a slight miss. Probably something correctable with a minor adjustment, what plugs are you running? If you say platinum then I'd start with a set of non-platinum plugs and a coil test.
