Re: Blocked Out License Plate #'s
But the artist in me gags at pictures of cars with crudely blacked out license plates, did they get their four year old kid to do it? Even worse is the pictures with the photographer's hand carefully located to "block" the license plate, how much work does that take? I think I'd worry more every ti...

You might want to save it for the next Oregon campfire chat. I bet you'll get a long, off the record replydavedecker4 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 1:14 amGreat points Court. Thanks for the sober analysis.
Perhaps we should ask "Isaac" for his thoughts too?

Re: Garage building thoughts, aesthetics & ultimate shop layout
Chris, congrats on breaking ground! I'm just catching up on this whole thread and it's been fun to see the evolution of the project. I've been operating out of a 1200 sq ft shop (about 400 office/bathroom, 800 shop) for the last 10 years. It's typical industrial condo construction with insanely tall...

Re: Blocked Out License Plate #'s
Consider the distinction between your license plate and vehicle make/model being momentarily available to a relatively small subset of the world population while driving around... versus a static posting on the internet available to virtually anyone worldwide. LIke with the bank account number, yeah...

Re: Electric spiders
Why would you still need a gearbox?? A gearbox in a "normal" car is basically a torque multiplier. Isn't the torque of an electric motor available instantaneously It is worth considering the powerplant output speed as well. Some electric motors can spin faster than combustion engines but they still...

Re: Miller's Mule
Let us know how it works out! End mills are pretty "grabby" and the helix will pull the material upward so make sure it's clamped securely. You could probably get quite close on the outside diameter using a 4" hole saw, if you could spin it slow enough to cut the aluminum. And regular layout tools w...

Re: Miller's Mule
How many discs do you need? Aluminum type and thickness? I don't have a CNC mill, just manual equipment, but can probably help you out. Do you have drawings/dimensions or just need someone to replicate the prototype shown in your video?

Re: recommendations for a bench vise?
Old made-in-USA "machinist" bench vises are my favorite. Strong as can be, heavy, with big screws, big handles, etc. I like fixed bases (non-swivel) so it doesn't move on you when you're really giving it the beans. Mine is an old Parker that I have mounted on a custom stand. The stand & vise are hea...

Re: Relay wiring madness
What tape should I use when wire removal is done? I think in the cabin I'll just use zip ties to provide access to the harness but I'd like to cover the part of the harness in the engine bay. TESA makes a variety of automotive harness tapes. Some of the fuzzy german car type stuff for low noise int...

Re: How many 128 owners in mira land?
Andy, that is a super nice ride. I'm fixing to redo the suspension on my street car. Can you talk a bit more about the rear coilovers? I don't much about them. Chris Hartman said they were built with DIE (DEI?) springs. I'll see if I can snap some pics and post them. Court, I still have a front swa...
