Good question, Dave! The left one was hit with grey Scotchbrite and ended up with the shinier finish. The middle one was glass bead blasted and ended up with the matte finish.

Yep, it is a fixture for machining the centers out of OEM pulleys. The bolts on the outside hold clamps for the toothed portion, while the inner bit aligns the hub and retains it when it is cut free.

You have it right, that the spec is typically for total toe (I have seen it referenced otherwise but not often). Nice thing about the DIY aporoach is it doesn't really matter, so long as your technique is repeatable. Getting the strings parallel is a bit of an iterative process but once you have the...
