Re: When did this all happen?

On my local CL, I just filtered for anything older than '86 and apparently there are a lot of other marques where "old" is the only qualifier for high prices. Ha! I don't have any qualms with $10k Fiats in excellent or restored shape. Nice to see some value associated with that now. But I agree, mul...

Re: 78 spider - crazy points

Do you grease the cam that the points foot rides on? Factory manual calls for a light coat. Or perhaps the adjustment screw is not tight enough, allowing the points to slip during operation?

Re: Oregon 2018

I was wondering how the drive up I-5 would be, especially through Redding. Might look at some alternate routes but I'll worry about that next week. Counting down the days now!

Re: Suspension issue and tire rubbing

You don't want to rely on shocks or springs to be your suspension limiter - that's what the bump stop is for. Stiffer shocks or springs will increase the load required to get to a specific point in the suspension travel, but you won't cure the inherent problem you're experiencing; it will just happe...

Re: Getting some time in on the California fleet.

Local preparations for Oregon are underway. I think we might get lucky waether wise this year. Our typical week (third week of July) was extremely hot and the valley was filled with smoke from wild fires in the area. The forecast for our dates start in the high 90s but drop to the mid 80 in town. T...

Re: Getting some time in on the California fleet.

Good to see your Fiat life is no different than for the rest of us. Heh, yep. Only difference is I have to fly 2000 miles to work on part of my fleet! Replaced the radiator cap today, and then epoxied the glovebox hinge back together (had to get some sort of win!). Test drive in the AM to see if we...

Re: 75 spider build

It looks like a damn fine job, even without the booth! If you managed to keep bugs out of it, that's a win in my book! :)

Re: Getting some time in on the California fleet.

Wow... sooo if there's any way to jinx myself, that was it! No sooner had I posted that than I took the X out for a spin (running fine all day) and it overheated. Caught it before it buried the needle in the red, so hopefully no engine damage. I knew the radiator cap was marginal (and had intended t...

Getting some time in on the California fleet.

Since the Oregon event was pushed back this year, I ended up getting a pre-Oregon trip in. Nice to have some mellow wrenching time on the X and the wagon, without major fabrication work or a 1000 mile road trip to sweat over. New ignition switch for the wagon, fired right up. Lube hood hinges & latc...

Re: Ultrasonic cleaners.....any good for carbs?

Guess I've just got it in my head that an ultrasonic cleaner would be nice for small hardware, all sorts of parts AND carbs... They are. My 1.5 gal unit will do carbs (dismantled of course), brake calipers, and loads of bicycle parts. The 11-sp and up MTB cassettes may need a little rotation for fu...
