Re: Tom Dotter's passing

Tom brought awesome enthusiasm and bottomless knowledge to the world of Fiats, especially here in Denver. I remember when he sold me the Abarth tailpipe that's on my 124. I could not afford the totally Reasonable for-sale price at the time, but after we spoke for a bit at Automezzi, he contacted me ...

Re: Valve Tolerances Make No Sense after Head Gasket

Disassemble and measure the alfa-style shims (lash caps) that you used. Then re-assemble without them at all, measure your gaps, and put in proper sized ones. Odd that something changed with re-assembly, but maybe you have extra thick gaskets or some such. Don't worry too much about what happened, j...

Re: 75 spider build

You seem very sure that you have spark, and at the correct timing. Your description of spark testing seems strong. To reassure yourself, set the whole thing on the timing marks and make sure that you are timed to number 4 and that your plug wires are all correct. Since it runs, I'm sure they are, bu...

Re: 38mm rear calipers - maybe not my best idea

Under braking, the weight of the car shifts forward, and the front brakes do more of the work than the rears. To even out the braking forces, Fiat designed the compensator valve. As the rear suspension rises up a little under braking, the compensator slightly cuts the flow of brake fluid to the rear...

Re: Aux and Crankshaft Stuck

Move and/or Remove the auxilliary shaft.

Remove your timing belt. Try turning the auxilliary shaft counterclockwise to un-stick it from the crank. If that won't work, try removing the aux shafter from the engine.

Lovely!

That's the best looking sedan I've seen in ages.

The offwhite color is great!

Re: 1968 850 Berlina...time to downsize

There are so few Berlinas for sale it is hard to price them. There have been a couple on BAT, but they were in very different shape condition than each other and brought divergant bids. Even though I'm not a buyer, I have my own Berlina and would love to see photos of yours. Also consider putting it...

Re: Detonation Problems- Can They Be Beaten?

does a dfev have an accelerator pump on the secondary?
If so, you could change the pump orifice size.

Or rejet the secondary, if you are sure that you're only getting detonation when you open the secondary.

Really, you need need dual IDFs.

Re: Bleed back jet? Questions Questions

Unless you buy a 00 jet size, the bleed back jet / bypass valve/ spill valve-spill jet has TWO holes in it. A larger hole passig the length of the jet and smaller side facing hole. The 00 jet size has one hole - for the main fuel flow into the accelerator pump circuit, but does NOT have the side fac...

Re: timing belt off by half tooth

It is fun to do mental gymnastics to figure out when a belt can be used, why, why not, etc. Cool thought experiments!

But at 17$ for a Gates belt, we should all just replace the thing once removed.
