Re: Smith's Far Code

Here is the Smiths on my '74 124 Spider. The wiring for it was present on the diagram, and it was easy to defeat by closing the circuits that go to the seat sensors.

Re: 75 spider build

If the bore scope provides no clues, can you pull the cam covers and watch the valve actuation to make sure they're opening properly?

Re: Not mine - comically overpriced 1985.5

The car does look very clean and unrusted. it is hard to know if the paint is in good shape bc of the overlighting. For 25,000$, they could have sourced a nice top - and they could have purchased a couple exhaust hangers. That's the detail that makes me question everything else about the car. Well, ...

Re: 124 Spider Abarth Stradale Build

1 - I've see this car in person. The workmanship is even better than the photos belie. He is an artist. 2 - Bill, I notice in one photo, a Stradale has the rubber holddowns for the trunk, and in another photo there are no holddowns present. I see that you chose the non-holddown options. Does there s...

Re: ISO 850 factory workshop manual in PDF

You could buy the paper copy, and seperate out the pages. Then buy a zillion of those clear plastic page protectors, and put each page in one. Then put the whole deal in a three ring binder. Remove what you need, wipe the pages clean when they get dirty. I did this for the 3 volume Alfa Milao worksh...

Re: Outer lighting Switch

My '71 850 Sedan has a seperate toggle for interior lights on/off! So one switch for outer lighting, one for inner lighting Then the column switch for parking/low/high. I actually love the lightness and delicacy of the column switch in the 850 It feels very lovely - and really, how often have I acci...

Re: What is your hardest car repair?

adjusting the valves on the front bank of a Ferrari 308 GT4 was a bruiser: remove engine decklid. remove right rear wheel and associated wheel well covers remove airbox (i think that took 400 fasteners!) remove timig belt covers (ha ha ha) remove valve covers (bleeding required) - sitting cross legg...

Re: Tom Dotter's passing

Tom brought awesome enthusiasm and bottomless knowledge to the world of Fiats, especially here in Denver. I remember when he sold me the Abarth tailpipe that's on my 124. I could not afford the totally Reasonable for-sale price at the time, but after we spoke for a bit at Automezzi, he contacted me ...

Re: Valve Tolerances Make No Sense after Head Gasket

Disassemble and measure the alfa-style shims (lash caps) that you used. Then re-assemble without them at all, measure your gaps, and put in proper sized ones. Odd that something changed with re-assembly, but maybe you have extra thick gaskets or some such. Don't worry too much about what happened, j...
