Re: New electronic dizzy

Hmmm, now I have to deal with the little hood clearance, lol. The Fiat manuals show the distributor pointed straight up at the underside of the hood with plug wires arching straight over the cam cover. In service, owners soon discovered that rotating the distributor from the 12 o'clock position to t...

Re: gas leak

Any rubber or plastic fuel line exposed to gasoline or alcohol shrinks over time. The lower the quality the greater the plasticizer loss and the more the shrinkage. Attached is a picture of two pieces of the same hose. One end has been soaking in gasoline for a month.

Re: gas leak

It does not have to be FI hose but does need to be good quality carb rated hose Well actually it does have to be fuel injection hose. The fuel filter is downstream of the injection pump and is pressurized by it. That's also why the fit of the clamps is fussy. These days carb fuel line is likely to ...

Re: New truck, couple questions

In 1971 if you wanted a vehicle with an all aluminum V-6 and double overhead cams putting out 80hp per liter you'd be looking at something from Ferrari or Maserati. If you wanted a full-sized pickup that could get 20mpg you'd be out of luck. Today you can get that plus electronic ignition, variable ...

Re: Spider 2000 filler neck hose

James wrote: It's probably not the correct type of rubber Neoprene is not known for its fuel resistance. Most fuel hose is made from a type of nitrile rubber. Yes, radiator hose and fuel hose are different. Sometimes you can get away substituting one for the other and sometimes not. Fuel pulls the p...

Re: Spider FI tank drain

If the Spider is fuel injected and has its original tank, the easiest way to drain it is to remove the fuel gauge sender from the top of the tank, raise the rear end enough to tilt the tank slightly towards the front of the car and use a simple gas syphon through the open tank top. Throw the plastic...

Re: Spider 2000 filler neck hose

It is important to use best quality hose and clamps on the Spider filler hose because the hose carries fuel until the tank is almost dry. The lower hose clamp at the tank must seal tightly. If the original clamp is not in good condition get another 2-1/2in double wire clamp. A screw type radiator ho...

Re: gas leak

Could be that the section of rubber hose is cracked. Fuel line deteriorates from the inside out. If it needs replacement use hose rated for fuel injection, SAE 30R9. While you are at it, shake the water out of the fuel filter. It is the low point in the fuel system and accumulates condensation from ...

Re: Weber experts!

James, There's two types of run-on. The first is dieseling when combustion continues after ignition is switched off due to overheated metal continuing to ignite incoming charge. The second is due to the ignition circuit not being properly and fully cut off. I never solved the root cause of either in...
