Re: 38mm rear calipers part II

... we all know that the front of our cars dip somewhat under heavy braking, and even with suspension upgrades the stiffened vehicle transfers a lot of weight to the front end. ... Just quick unrelated note: weight transfer is what causes the car's front to dip, or the car to lean in corners. One c...

Yes. The only difference is the ones made after April or so of 1985 have a bolt and not a nut at the end.
It changed in 1983, not 85, and the pilot shaft bearing also changed then (and thus the hole in the crank that accepts it).

Re: ‘78 - Trouble Fitting Gear Reduction Starter

Chris is correct, it's hitting the steering box. I've seen this 1-2 times before, it seems like it's one of those possible but unlikely scenarios. The easiest solution is to remove the starter and take a grinder/hacksaw/sawzall to the piece of the steering box that juts out. It seems that the piece ...

Re: Is this idle OK?

What is the ignition advance at idle? I've seen engines miss like that when they had a lot of advance at idle.

Re: Slam the hood?

I've had some Spiders where I had to slam the hood and had others where it was not needed. Make sure the latch is adjusted properly left to right as well as proper height. Maybe go all the way up on the latch, see how is it to close it, and if the hood sits too high then go down little by little?

Tom Dotter's passing

I was saddened to hear of Tom's passing, as he was still very active and was running Aspen Import Auto in Colorado. Here is his obituary: Owner of Aspen Import Auto, Founder of the RMFLC and Automezzi, Tommie Lee Dotter (Tom), was a huge contributor to the automotive community for nearly 50 years. T...

Re: Strong fuel smell while driving

My guess is one of the vapor hoses in the trunk is leaking. It's easy enough to replace them, which they should be anyways if they are original. If there are no emission controls left in the engine compartment, where do the vapor lines from the trunk go? Is it possible that there is an open line som...

Re: 5 Fiat "Iron Cross" Cromodoro Wheels

You may want to add your location, as shipping cost would be a major factor. I recently tried to sell a similar set on a FB group (for a lot less) and people balked to have to pay $60-80 in shipping.
