Re: Why the distributor relocation on later 124's?

And not all 1608 had cam distributors either. The 1608s on the 125s came with the block mounted distributors.

Re: What is the proper way to Measure valve shims

My eyeballing of the cam I installed was that there was no lift for about 180deg. So as long as the lobe peak is 90deg or more away from the shim in either direction, you should get the same reading.

I am redoing my clearances tomorrow so will confirm this thesis.

Re: Engine mount question

It'll be good to have a table of the different mounts available and their dimensions. I'll put one together when I get the chance.

Re: Engine mount question

What's the volvo part number I should look for if I wanted to get them? Are the newer production Fiat mounts of better quality or still not great?

Engine mount question

The early spider engine mount seems to be a multipart assy with a spring in the middle of the rubber mount. The later seems to be solid rubber - I piece. Are they interchangeable? Which is better for a 1608?

THanks!

I happen to be in the bay area for a few days this week. Just before I left home, I noticed oil seeping out one of the screws for the exhaust valve cover. I made a mental note to stop at Ace hardware and look for something suitable but forgot to take a measurement. Hoping someone has an ID/OD for th...

Re: Distributor advance curves

Casba,
I am not currently in the US. But, the distributor I pulled was from a 131/brava in a pick n pull yard in Sacramento.

Re: Gearbox removal

There is a crossmember right below the bellhousing flange which will prevent the bellhousing from dropping. So to tilt the gearbox end down, I'd have to pivot the assembly at the crossmember and lift the front end of the engine just as high (~9") as I'd need the gear box to drop. The drive assy is p...

Re: Gearbox removal

Building on that thought -- loosen engine mounts nuts, and radiator mount (since I have very little flex at the short top hose), perhaps loosen exhaust flange nuts as well, and then try levering the gearbox to the left. The stud is not an issue. The drive does pull clear off that even now. I need to...
