Re: Time for a new battery

I don't have any inside knowledge on batteries, but I can tell you that just because one company makes multiple brands doesn't necessarily mean they all are made either identical or to the same standards. I've had customers over the years that made both in house brands and for others, and not all we...

Re: Time for a new battery

Unless things have changed dramatically over the past 15 or so years, you couldn't give me a WalMart battery. I bought one while my daughter was in college, it was a Sunday and a small college town, not much else open. I replaced that thing for free or next to nothing about 4 or 5 times over the nex...

Re: Time for a new battery

Sam, I know a lot of people are using Optima batteries, their a little different technology. I lean towards the Interstate brand, it's just a regular battery, nothing new.

Re: Swapping rear ends

Except for all the setbacks, I'm making progress, haha. I've got some issues with the hard brake line. First, while trying to transfer the line I had an issue with one of the line nuts where it attaches to the flexible hose. I thought it was turning, but no, only the wrench was moving. Rounded the n...

Re: Swapping rear ends

It seems that I've often heard the 2000 sits an inch or so higher than earlier cars. The shock mounts on the late rear are about an inch higher than the mounts on the early one. Any correlation?

Swapping rear ends

Turned out the noise I heard last fall was the rear end. After burning through the third pig in a poke late style rear end, the consensus was get an early style and swap out the pumpkin with a new 3.9:1 pumpkin from AR. Jim Wagner had a donor I could have, so I took the bait. I ordered the new pumpk...

Re: Soft TOP replacment

The Genevieve Obert instructions were published in "European Car" magazine, December 1996, volume 27, No. 12, pages 80-83. I don't know if they are still publishing or not, so I'm not sure if it could be scanned and put in the Mirafiori library or not. I still have the magazine. As far as material c...

Re: Heater valve replacement

I recently bought the parts from AR, I hope I can do that in about twice that time, sucks to be old.

Re: Soft TOP replacment

Some top suppliers provide fairly good instructions on installation. As Brad mentioned the Factory Shop Manual has fairly good instructions as well. I've never found any of the instructions to be as through as I would like, so read all you can find and pay close attention to how the old top comes of...

Re: quick question - valve cover screw washer

I know shipping is a pita, but order eight of them and just get the real deal, that way you know it works and you don't do more damage than good. I'm sure all the vendors have them.
