Re: The State of Italian Car Design

Fiat design ceased when Cesare Romiti fired Vittorio Ghidella, the last car guy to run Fiat. After that Fiat was in steady slide downhill. Times do change and bean counters prevail now more than ever when styling is being considered, but I find the latest 124 spider a aesthetic success for FIAT. Ku...

Re: timing belt off by half tooth

" As for being off a half tooth on the cam timing, that will make a performance difference because on a DOHC Fiat, 1 tooth = 8.5 degrees, so a half tooth of extra slack will be retarding your cam timing a little over 4 degrees. 4 degrees is noticeable enough to move the power band a little later, a...

Re: WTB CD-134 "Turbo" Wheels

These are the ones he has (had?). I don't see them listed on ebay any longer. But if all else fails you could always try to negotiate a better price with Matt: https://www.midwest-bayless.com/fiat-131-0_p-1340-alloy-wheels-set-4x-cromodora-cd-134-speedline-turbo-fiat-124-spider-1981-82-reconditioned...

Re: WTB CD-134 "Turbo" Wheels

Saw a set recently for sale - I think Jay Johnson in So Cal has a set. He's usually on ebay under a couple of different account names, unobtanium is one of them.

Re: timing belt off by half tooth

My take on timing belt replacement intervals has more to do with age of the belt, my skill set, and cost, both potential and actual. It's never a great idea to question the factory intervals on the belt that the car started it's service life. But when the belt is the second replacement or higher, I ...

WTB: Gear Reduction Starter for 1608cc 124

Anyone have one laying around from an unfinished project and want to sell?
Need it for a 1971 Fiat 124 Spider, 1608cc motor.

UPDATE 3/27: bought one from Autoricambi, no longer need this.

Re: Aluminum radiator fit problem

A small endorsement note about Bar's Leak - In the mid 1990's, I took a tour of GM's Bowling Green assembly plant where the Corvette is built. I saw them put an additive into the radiator prior to filling it with coolant. When I inquired what it is, the assembly tech told me it was Bar's leak and ev...

Re: What is the proper way to Measure valve shims

Anyone got a dial indicator and v-blocks to see how much variance there is on a Fiat DOHC cam between 90 and 180 degrees? ------------------------------------ --Robert, I think you are missing the point. Cams lobes may vary in diameter at the 90 degree measurement, particularly on re-grinds when th...

Anyone got a dial indicator and v-blocks to see how much variance there is on a Fiat DOHC cam between 90 and 180 degrees? That would settle this once and for all.
