Re: Old head bolts

Ahh, I see. Looks fairly thin so it won't effect the fit much, but should about double the thickness compared to the original metal.

Re: Old head bolts

When you say a doubler on the vertical face, I see the cross member came with two new triangle shims.....do you omit these and use a wider piece the same thickness as the shims for the doubler, or do you add pieces shaped around the triangle profile of the cross member on the vertical face?

Re: Old head bolts

Hi Jim, Yes, I had to cut out the old bolts, so I'm using the two plate method and tig welding a plate on top and bottom with tubes welded to them vertically so I can run the bolts all the way through the frame from the top but not crush the thin frame when torqueing. Old head bolts

Looking for some old head bolts to re-purpose as cross member bolts on my cross member to frame repair. Figured if someone has some laying around and wants to make a few bucks I'd rather spend the money here than Amazon.

Re: Aux shaft bearing jig?

Yeah, I'm going to try and dress them up, if it doesn't work out I'll order a set from AR, still need a few parts anyway.

Re: Aux shaft bearing jig?

Thanks Jim, They took them out at the machine shop, and I did get them re installed, but the shaft is really tight on the bearings. They appear to be in straight and all the oil holes are lined up properly. I might dress them up a bit and see if I can loosen up the fit. They might have squeezed a li...

Aux shaft bearing jig?

Someone mentioned a little bit ago that there was a jig you could fabricate to install the aux shaft bearings. Anyone have any info on building this jig?

Re: Follow along as I build a 79 Spider

I'd imagine that might be pretty hard on aluminum parts though.
