Re: Aux shaft bearing jig?

Yeah, I'm going to try and dress them up, if it doesn't work out I'll order a set from AR, still need a few parts anyway.

Re: Aux shaft bearing jig?

Thanks Jim, They took them out at the machine shop, and I did get them re installed, but the shaft is really tight on the bearings. They appear to be in straight and all the oil holes are lined up properly. I might dress them up a bit and see if I can loosen up the fit. They might have squeezed a li...

Aux shaft bearing jig?

Someone mentioned a little bit ago that there was a jig you could fabricate to install the aux shaft bearings. Anyone have any info on building this jig?

Re: Follow along as I build a 79 Spider

I'd imagine that might be pretty hard on aluminum parts though.

Re: Follow along as I build a 79 Spider

Yeah, I would think the temp you would need would be too high to use on most automotive parts that need close tolerances to be maintained. Too much potential for warping and altering metal structure.
BTW....the Krud Kutter was ineffective on carbon. Ended up soda blasting the valves and chambers.

Re: Follow along as I build a 79 Spider

Red......decided I'm going with a red block. Not classic but if you've got to paint it anyway, might as well go flashy. Plus if I blow a hole in the side of it, It'll look cooler when I post the pics

Re: Follow along as I build a 79 Spider

Yeah, I got my buffing wheel ready to go, just need to find a day that's not so cold so I can get the shop good and warm (hate buffing in the cold) I got some VHT engine paint when I was doing the Corvette valve covers, and it seems to have held up well. I was also thinking of giving the POR engine ...

Re: Follow along as I build a 79 Spider

Very nice Jim! That brings up another choice I need to make.....engine block color. I like they grey of yours, was also thinking of black to contrast the aluminum and red anodized parts I have. Then I was thinking red so it's all red and silver....so many options. BTW, what type of paint did you use?

Re: Follow along as I build a 79 Spider

--Tim, this is your best chance to skim (deck) the top of that block to get a good clean surface. You only need to do a few thou, although you can go up to 40 thou with a standard compression height on a piston pin. (you increase compression of course). You would only need to re-do the hot wash wit...

Re: Aux shaft bearings, nightmare or no big deal

I told them to leave them out. I'll check them and decide weather to get new ones or use the old ones. When you say you need a jig, what would be so different about these compared to cam bearings in say a Chevy or ford? As long as they go in straight and the oil holes line up properly I wouldn't see...
