Numbers matching on a classic FIAT just means the serial number stamped in the body matches the serial number riveted to the body. Everything else is fair game. Once you develop this attitude towards the cars your life is quite easy.

And the engine 'type' number on the firewall should match the engine.

--and from a technical standpoint, the main bearing cap numbers should match the number stamped on the bottom of the block. You can switch crankshafts between motors, but not main bearing caps, without check/correcting line bore.
