Winter gear lube advice needed.

Post by Ritmo75 » Sun Jan 28, 2018 10:54 pm

The Yugo needs a better alternative to gl1 I've been using this winter. The gear shift gets the old broomstick in a bucket of tar feel to it in the subzero temps. What's a safe thinner oil alternative for this time of year?

Thanks

A lot of us X1/9 and 128 owners use Redline lubricants for the gearbox. Has the cold consistency of ATF and works great.

Ditto on what Carl said, Redline MTL is a great trans lube. Redline MT90 is a bit thicker if MTL seems too thin.

Thanks, I may have to give that a go.

Any thoughts on using something like a 20 50 weight motor oil in the transmission?

Oddly enough, the old Haynes manual for spiders said to use Castrol GTX 20-50 in the 124 gearbox and I even ran that in one of my spiders for a few years with no ill effect that I could detect.
