drivers door top hinge

Post by river » Mon Feb 05, 2018 8:23 am

I just notice some play in the top hinge on the drivers door, there does appear to be a crack. I have a 1982 2000 and this seems to be common The question is can it be welded up without having to repaint the door skin. Pics suggestions would be appreciated

--For clarity, I suspect the problem is not a crack in the upper door "hinge", but rather the supporting structure of the door for the hinge. Proper repair usually involves removing the door, leaving the hinges on the car, and then welding the cracked supporting structure of the door. This can be accomplished without repainting the door skin.

--Just a note, this is one of several changes that Fiat made with the later 2L Spiders that were better designed with the early Spiders. Door hinges (supporting structure) and seat backs are both weaker on later Spiders.
