SEM tan vinyl matching color?

Post by bartigue » Sat Feb 17, 2018 9:57 pm

I have a good enough condition black center console I can spray to match the fiat vinyl - but I don’t know which vinyl spray to buy. Anyone know the correct SEM paint?

Alternatively any want to trade tan for black?

I had a paint shop color match the SEM to a factory sample for a red interior Spider I restored. On my '88 Toyota 4X4, I found a very close off-the-shelf color and resprayed everything with a light coat. That worked great because often times the various pieces faded at different rates.

There's so much variation in the Fiat vinyl colors due to manufacturing and fading over 40+ years that it will be hard to find a perfect match without having the color custom mixed. However, I have used SEM Light Buckskin which is a pretty good match with the 81 Anniversary Edition leather color. It is lighter than the standard vinyl color. The Camel color was way darker than mine. I've also tried the Duplicolor Tan Vinyl Paint which is a horrible match.

The best that I've found is through World Upholstery, http://www.worlduph.com It matched my seats and original door panels extremely well. It is a custom mix to match their vinyl.

This is what the Duplicolor looks like. The door cards, boot cover and console were painted with Duplicolor. It was horrible. It has an odd bluish green cast to it http://smg.photobucket.com/user/spidern ... 2.jpg.html

This was the World Upholstery vinyl paint. The console and door cards were painted. The seats were not. The color was nearly identical.

The console in this photo was the SEM Lt. Buckskin. The seats are a bit more yellow/brown in the vinyl. You can see the console is lighter in color, but fairly close. http://smg.photobucket.com/user/spidern ... 8.jpg.html
