Follow along as I build a 79 Spider

Post by whitehause » Tue Dec 11, 2018 4:46 pm

Well, the time is here. The first pictures of my follow along as I build thread. This is what I'm starting with. Yes it's rough as hell, but it's all there. Should be interesting to see what I find as I start the teardown,

The Holley 5200 thanks to member Dave, and Manifold thanks to member fiat850!
The floor pans are from Motor city rust repair. $115.00 for the pair including shipping. Not truly factory correct, but for that price they'll serve my purpose.

Hood and wiper cowl off. A few leaves under the cowl, but all the metal is solid.
Yes it has AC, which I haven't decided if I'm going to keep or not. Since I'm building it for SCCA probably not, but it's only a few pounds with a separate belt that I can take off when I race it.

Let me know if you need a part. I have 2 parts cars, both 1979. With 2 Fiats it helps to have the spares.

Personally, I would chuck the AC. It just complicates everything. Not only that, there is usually people who want the AC so you can sell it and recoup some expense.

I'll probably replace any major components that are bad with new stuff. But if I run across any little of those hard to find odds and ends I'll let you know!
Thank you!

I'll have to see if the fittings and components are good or not. If it needs any major repair, it's going.

Anyone know the best place to get a cam pulley removal tool? Or is there a trick do doing it without one? I'm getting adjustable cam pulleys, but don't want to damage these since they're in good shape.

Ahhh, Christmas at the Post Office. Not a lot of time to do much, but heads off and cam boxes stripped down.
Can anyone say carbon??? I think there's enough on the tops of the pistons to make the Hope diamond!

Well I see you and I are working on cars of similar quality, and have the same employer! Not much time these days is an understatement but I do wind up bringing some little item in from the garage and dabble with it here at my desk.
