Troubleshooting non working speedo

Post by bnam2 » Sat Jan 19, 2019 9:35 am

When I got my Cabrio, the speedo was not working. The cable sleeve looked shot, so I got a new cable & sleeve. Before I installed it, I tested the speedo with a cable end attached to my drill -- and the speedo worked when the cable was spun counter clockwise. But, after installing the new cable I still did not see any change -- speedo was still not working.

I pulled out the cable at the speedo end and had it handing out under the dash as I drove around the neighborhood. The cable was not turning. However, if I slightly pushed in the cable with my thumb, I could it feel it rotate.

So, I though that perhaps the cable was not seated properly on the drive end. I removed the cable and refitted again at the drive end. Still no change!

What's going on? Should I pull out the drive and check it out? Are there any instructions anywhere on drive disassembly and reassembly?
