upholstered the seats this weekend. Still have the backs to go. working on the interior, the trunk and finishing under the hood. Somehow I will have to find the time to install the top too.

well, I tried the best I could to make the freak out with this car. The new top that I ordered last week did not arrive today . Things happen. And besides the top there are just too many little things to do to make it happen. I was going to have to compromise the build in some areas as well. Granted i was going to change them afterwards. I will just have to enter my zagato. Not nearly as nice as I just bought it and have only driven it some. I have not repaired anything interior or body wise to it yet

sorry for the lack of updates lately. I have the top installed and the driving lights in. Working on the electrics. Lots of things not working or operating incorrectly. The 1975 spider does not have a good diagram. I mostly follow the 1976 diagram, There are only a few things not correct. But I also got this! and well, I have been driving it

You just screwed your ownership of the 75 spider with the purchase of a new one, you will now never want to drive that old clunker!

I have run in the engine. About 30 minutes. got the engine up to temperature. varied the engine speed between 1500 and 2500 rpm to bed in the cam shafts. I am running only new shims. So after it cooled down for the second time I decided to pull the valve covers and inspect things and check valve adjustment. The adjustment on a few valves closed .001" basically nothing. What i was not happy with is the feeling on a few of the cam lobes. Also the cam lobes them selves are not smooth. I called the vendor. I was greeted with just pull them out and send them back for inspection. I asked "what about my engine and time and gaskets" they responded with basically not their problem! So i have decided to leave them in and run them anyway. If the lobes destroy themselves the rest of the world will know what not to buy. Or they could keep on and be fine. I have been building fiat engines for 30 years. I know what I am doing. I have never had a camshaft problem.

Can't comment on the cam issue but is the small clearance maybe due to the valves settling in and closing up a bit?

--Randy, just to be clear, are you saying that when you checked valve adjustment, some of the valves "varied by .001" from their original settings; or are you saying that some of the valves were at near zero clearance, ie. .001" ?

they went from .016 to .015 just normal wear in. Thats why I left them a bit loose. After the next run in I will recheck them hot to see where things go to. Then make my final cold adjustment.

--Randy, I agree that the clearance changes would be perfectly normal.

--Looking back at the initial pics of the cams (although it may just be the resolution) those cam lobes don't appear to be overly polished, but they shouldn't display any unusual wear after such a short run-in. I wouldn't pull them either. I agree with running them some more and re-checking.
