Let's piss off carl

Post by friedman » Mon Aug 05, 2019 1:23 pm

Nice drive home from the Outer Banks yesterday, going up rt. 17 instead of Interstate 95. For those of you who don't know it, rt 17 up through Virginia is a wonderful four lane road which no one uses. No one coming the opposite direction, no one behind me and only two cars in front of me, one in the right lane and one in the left lane, both doing the posted 60mph speed limit and both going precisely besides each other....for mile after mile as my brain starts to cook because I have been traveling at 70-75.

Driving behind one and then the other made no difference. Fantasies of being on a bike and just splitting between them kept me going for awhile. Because my wife and mother were in the car I didn't pull up tight to the car in the left lane and start flashing my high beams furiously...I really wanted to.

All three of us would come up to slower cars and the guy in the right lane would either speed up or slow down to get behind the guy in the left lane to get around the slow guy and then get back to being beside each other.

In spite of whether or not you wanted to piss off carl, wouldn't you not want to drive beside another car as this is dangerous if nothing else, we are not a flight of B-17s in the 8th Air Force sticking tight to formation.

Just wonder what you guys would do in this situation, and driving around them on the shoulder is NOT and option.

Normal driving in Louisiana is to use the passing lane only, then if someone passes you on the left, speed up because you’re mental age is about 14.

I cost Brad and I quite a lot of $ to find two people who were prepared to drive like that ... for mile, after mile, after mile, after mile :)

I would back off at least 20 car lengths, adjust my cruise control to theirs and wait. The game is no fun if no one plays. Children have a very short attention span.

I agree, not much can be done other than to let it ride (so to speak). Take a break at the next exit and let them get 20 miles ahead. Or turn on the radio and get mellow, but if Sammy Hagar starts singing, "I can't drive... 55!!!" turn it back off. It'll just make you angrier...

Wife and mother can become 'acclimatized' to driving style eventually...
Oh, and it ain't just Louisiana Brad, we have plenty of those 14 year olds driving around here too.
I confess, I clicked on this post thinking it was like an old fashioned post from Dwight or something, and then its just typically idiots on the freeway. The one that gets me even worse, is the one that just stays right in your blind spot forreeever. and your never quite sure if you can switch lanes...or they're going to switch into you.

I'm disappointed that you all wanted ME to adjust to a situation I didn't want. I kept waiting for some clown in a big jacked up pickup to come wailing along to "push" the person in the left out of the way...where are those guys when you need one.

Fortunately I'm home so terrible drivers are the norm and there is no more relaxed driving for me.

Maybe I need to do track days again, they usually burned out all my driving aggression and street driving was much calmer after that.

Well it ain't like you can fix stupid.
Only thing you can do, is adjust how you get around stupid.

A big ass pickup with the really annoying LED light bars in the grill and roof would do it, me thinks.

Did that on the way home from FFO a couple of times.... worked a charm.
