Thanks all . Jim … thank you for stressing the importance of sustained cfm available .. one I am looking at is a puny 4 cfm, 2 hp, 17 gal ..small footprint …... should be good for tire inflation and a blast of air for cleaning things up .. No ?

--Absolutely Joe. I take a 4 gal. 3/4 hp, 1.7 CFM @ 90psi small one to the track for exactly those functions.

--Just a back-note on remotely locating an air compressor. Chris G. mentioned possibly locating a compressor in the attic. Wherever you choose to locate an air compressor, just be sure to turn to air-valve off when leaving the work space. If an air-hose should spring a leak (while you're not there to turn it off), the compressor will run until internal breaker over-load, if configured. Also, water from the tank should be expelled after each day's use.
