Fiats at the 2015 SCCA run off's

Post by engineerted » Mon Sep 21, 2015 10:15 am

I see that Gary Baucom and Matt Brannon will be at this year's run off at
Daytona.

I did not know that Baucom was running a 124 in FP again??

Good luck to both of them and I will have to keep an eye out for that 124!!

I wonder if Gary has resurrected one of John's old cars.Didn't realize that Gary
was involved as a driver. John (the son)was the one who was driving when they
won the championships.

--Wow, I didn't see that coming! Not sure how Gary qualified for the
Runoffs. I didn't see him listed in the points standings. I think there's a
provision for consideration based on previous record.

--Gary's had an admirable record in SCCA Runoff history, competing at least
from 1979-1993 in 124 Spiders. His best finishes were in '87-89, with a 2nd
place finish in GP in both '87/88, and a 3rd place finish in FP in '89. Right
after Virginia International Raceway was re-opened in 2001(?), Gary set the
track record for EP in John's recent national championship Spider.

--There were a lot a cars "specially prepared" just for Daytona this year.
Sure will be great to see a Spider back in the mix!!!! Go Gary!!

--Unbelievable, isn't it! Where on earth did he find 3 more seconds!! I
always believed the Baucoms' were the top of the game in Fiat 124 Spider
racing. Now I think it's carved in stone....

--That's the good news Ted. The bad news is that we can expect to add extra
weight to our cars, it he gets to the top of the podium....? :(

That maybe a possibility. I would like to know what weight he is running at.
Single carb or the idf's
at 1965lbs? Eric Prill made posted a comment on the prod site about how Gary's
car is a rocket out
of the corners. Not sure what happen with him at qal2&3, he turned very few
laps?

In the post race interview Campbell claimed Baucom cut down in front of him. Not
what I saw. Looked like he hit him initially and and instead of backing off just
went ahead and hit him again.
