Migration!

Post by isaac » Wed Aug 24, 2016 1:34 am

This thing has been ready to rock for a few days, and the stars finally aligned for Ross and myself to spend the time we needed to get the work done.

I'm super happy with this software. I was resistant to the change at first, but when Brad stepped up and offered to tackle this, I was very grateful.

Back when we first started doing this, the ability to attach a picture or a document to a post wasn't even a thing. Integrated search didn't work that well, and nobody cared. We got as much as we could out of the old girl, but the lack of integrated search put us in a lot of jeopardy.

We could well have lost a treasure trove of knowledge, tied up in clunky old software that only the oldtimers knew how to use. Now, we can present that data in a way that (I hope!) most of us see as better, and easier to use.

Thanks for your patience as we get this completely sorted, there's some stuff that had to wait for this milestone to get wrapped up.

Above all, thanks for being part of the Forum! Lots of good memories as I looked at ancient archives this evening :)

Best,
- Eli Caul

There'll surely be a bunch of bumps and bruises along the trail, but the community will survive. Thanks Brad, Andy, and of Course Eli for providing us with a great resource. -kd

Re: Migration! Dumb Question time...

So what we are looking at here is the Forum, going wayyy back to 1998 or so. It is quite something to behold!

Which brings me to the question, - what will become of The Fiat Page?

Thanks all,

John

We are working to migrate the content to the library of this forum.

That's a cool prospect. Makes me wonder though, about sections like Dave McGraths Unofficial Spider Price Guide. It is 20 years old.
I guess it falls into the "historical artifact" category, though with the reintroduction of the (Fiata) 124 Spider it might be reasonable to think that the unofficial price guide - part 2 could become a worthwhile project.

We could show the ramp up....I'm not saying everything is relevant, but it will be transferred as time permits.

My time zone is set to EDT, I 'm currently on the west coast. You can change your time zone in user profile if you like. The default for everyone is EDT.

Well, this is odd because I posted my message at 11:16 AM and the stamp says 3:17 PM. I didn't change the TZ so far, so maybe the default is GMT?
