My first Fiat

Post by mikehynes » Wed Jan 11, 2017 11:11 am

I bought this car 40 years ago this month. I've still got it, it's just got a little "patina" now. And lots of memories...

bumperless before all the kids went bumperless!

i keep seeing great looking X1/9s and i've had an idea that I will change the color on my '85 (partially because it's been painted in a horrible metal flake red & partially because the original red is fine but I'm tired of owning red cars) and every so often my array of choices gets expanded by yet another photo of an X 1/9 that looks great. Dangit!

Very nice! Mine turns 40 this year as well - although I'm the 2nd owner.

The car is a '74. The bumpers just didn't look right so it was easy to remove them.

ah, the irony of it...you have a '74 with the coveted bumpers & you remove them! I love it. seriously.

I don't think any of the bumpers Fiat put on the X look very good. They all look like an add-on afterthought. The '74 blades look OK, but those big rubber blocks...well not so much. The 2 bar '75-'78 bumpers make great battering rams, that's the best attribute of any of the X bumpers.

It's like an ad from a Penney's catalog. The boots. The pants. The turtleneck. The glasses. The hair. The car. The smug look. It's awesome.

My first Fiat. One owner, 150K, purchased new in Turin, all receipts, very original (including lots of original dents, dings, rust, and wear), ran great. Later, shortened on the back of a Ford Probe & completely dismantled for parts. This is an after/before or first days of ownership & last day...
