I'll show you how exciting autocross was, the picture below was from me trying to get to the DC area finals. The second pic was how you migrate from autocross to something a tad more exciting. Never was able to autocross again...

Look at Mr. Triple duce himself ... very cool Car, BTW, the guy in the photo was a very fine gent named Carl ... back in the day with the Poughkeepsie Sports Car Club ...

OK, what happened ? Did you really crash out of an autocross >??... surely it is an "amusing" story

it was rather ironic. My brother (the little kid next to the tow truck driver who is now 62 years old) and I were headed to an autocross which was the big finale event for the year and I had casually mentioned to my brother " no more traffic lights to go through till we get there" when an old lady in a Dodge Dart decided to move into my lane and her front bumper put that nice crease in the side of my car. My brother and I were not injured so that was good but we were done and it took about three months to get that poor coupe repaired (poorly). When we got home I asked my dad if I could use the family Chevy Impala to go autocross but he looked at me in a manner to suggest I was out of my mind. When you are college age you see no boundaries, just possibilities. Autocrossing in the late 1960s was immensely popular in the DC area and they even held events at the old Marlboro Speedway. When local blue laws were rescinded in the area and shopping malls could be open on Sundays (where most of our events were held) it got harder and harder to find venues. In my class I ran against VW bugs, other 850 Fiats, Renaults, Corvairs and an obscenely fast Saab 850 Monte Carlo that would come down from Pennsylvania to clean our clocks. I had an immensely great time autocrossing till my buddy bought a dirt bike and let me ride it. For the next 20 years I was all about bikes with few Fiats.

Nice story, at least about the good times you had doing autoX.... I can't resisted comparing the part about being hit by a LOL (little old lady) on the way to an autoX to James Dean and his mechanic getting hit by some schmuck on the way to a race. But I digress.... no that really sucked, but hey it had a happy ending , "they all lived" yeah !
