While i am working under the hood and cowl area i also checked my heater. First the upper flap would not move. So I figured I would pull the heater box and lube it. Can of worms v2.0. After pulling the console and discovering all the home brewed wiring and incorrect fasteners, I unearthed the heater box. Removed the assembly. Note, this is like the 3rd one I have seen where the factory only installed 3 mounting bolts. The 4th was never there. Not broke off. Just never there. once the heater assembly was out i discovered to my dismay that the upper part of the box was broken. I honestly thought this was always made from plastic. But it appears to be fiberglass of sorts.

I also installed the engine. Hooked a few things up just to have that feeling of some type of completion.

Went to school today to complete something. The battery box in this car is horrible. Apparently the battery boiled over at some point and totally rusted the area due to improper cleaning after.

I bet getting out the old battery box is a real bastard of a job.
Never seen a heater in that bad a shape. Get in touch with Erskine, he must have 10 or more of them in his attic.

I hope it will be fairly straight forward. Cut and paste. the back of the battery box is originally the rear bulkhead. that will just get cut out and replaced double thick. I will por 15 the box and everything behind it . prior to paint. That is really the only rust on the car except a small spot on the rr 1/4

installed the battery box today. Was not real bad to remove the old one except the harbor freight air chisel that I have is a POS. that made the job take a little longer than it should have.

Wow, that is some nice work Randy! I'm impressed. Rarely do I see somebody do it properly. I love the way you even included the studs and fixings as original. Usually whenever I see someone do something like this, they try to replace it with a generic box and leave all that stuff out. Keep up the good work

Thanks. I try to keep what I am doing "period specific" resto mod. I have always owned spiders. I just want one done the way I feel it should be done and then driven. I could disassemble it and put it on a rotisserie. But then I would never drive it. My lancia is that way. The never ending project. But what a hoot it will be when done. if it is ever done...lol

I dont want the car to look hacked up. The only rust on the car is the right rear 1/4 where the factory made a poor panel fit and then filled it with seam sealer. Lots of it. It retained moisture and guess what. This car has never been in a accident that i can detect at this point. I will know better when I get around to the body work. But all panels except the rockers are original. I would assume those rusted and they were replaced with fiberglass ones.

I am painstakingly trying to keep this original except for the mechanical mods, and where replacement parts make sense.

Went by the paint store today. Spent another 180.00 on materials will try and finish the trunk this week. Last week of classes. Then its off to Ft. Lauderdale for a Kicking camp for my son. Then ill be back at school on Tuesday. No kids so I can get a lot done!
