Rain, at Carlisle, again, really!

Post by friedman » Thu May 17, 2018 12:01 pm

I was going to go Saturday but the weather looks atrocious so once again, I'll pass this year.
Been several years since my annual visit with Dwight Varnes there, damn.

Dickinson College in downtown Carlisle generally holds its May commencement on the same weekend as the Import Show, which makes motel and restaurant reservations in the area quite tight. They schedule most of the their weekends events for students and families out of doors. When its not raining, springtime in Central Pennsylvania can be quite nice.

On the other hand, there's a reason car show vendor spaces under the grandstand cost a premium. I lost my interest in the Carlisle trip when the Cozy Inn in Thurmont shut down. It never rained on a Cozy Inn breakfast.

It's been kicked around many times in fun that Carlisle needs to change the Import car weekend as this weekend seems to be cursed with rain.

It rained again in Carlisle this weekend, which also coincides with Memorial Day. Next weekend is the annual all Ford show with the Ford parade through the center of town. The weekend before the usual date is Mother's Day. The event staff are 80% mothers. The first weekend in May has an even higher chance of precipitation. There is no easy alternative for Carlisle events in the Spring.

It would seem, from a business standpoint, that the event should be moved to some other time of the year. Did anyone go to the Import show this May?

--Is the Carlisle event still the "Import" show......dominated by the "tuner" crowd? Obviously, I haven't been in years.

Don't know, was there a year ago and I think the year before that but for both years the weather was terrible and I didn't stay long.
