How much is my car worth?

Post by Manhalt » Mon Jun 11, 2018 9:55 pm

Hey all, me and my dad just spent a lot of time cleaning up this 1976 fiat 128 and now that we are just about done I'm curious what it's worth? All interior is there and in great shape. Very minimal rust, 2 spots on the front of the rockets replaced b4 paint. Even the radio is in working order! Hard to find a good value for it with literally no market in my area(Northeastern Wisconsin). Any input is appreciated :D not sure how to upload a picture so text me at 920 242 3467 if you'd like 1 to help you value it! Thanks

Most people would rather post there comments here so that they can be of value to others.

How many miles on the car?

Color?

Two or four door?

I've owned two, and the one Bill Barker owns now was mine. He lives in Wisconsin.

I wanna say it has 68xxx miles, 4 speed, 2 door, and it's a custom paint of 2 tone blue and black with a white small pin stripe between them.

I won't agree totally with Mike, I don't think mileage has any bearing on our old Fiats. 2-door models are more desirable than 4-doors. 128s in good condition are so rare now that color is probably not an issue. Condition of interior is important as replacement parts are hard to get. Any rust under the battery tray as this is a notorious rust area.

As to what it's worth, that is hard to figure out as again they are rare and hardly come up for sale. You could put it on eBay, step back and see what happens or put it up for sale here and on Xweb with a price you want and see what happens. You could also see if Bring A Trailer would accept it for their auction as they seem to get the highest prices for Fiats.

Use the search function on Bring-A-Trailer to pull up the 128's that have sold there over the past five years. The spread on prices reflects both condition and location. Still can't believe Carl gave away Ovington's 128 wagon for $2,500.

Carl sells his Fiats for market price reflecting vehicle condition. I just don't have the patients to spend a year trying to sell my cars.

I sold my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan on CL last week in something less than an hour. The ad had been up on Craigs List for less than a day when the first buyer arrived on Saturday morning. A second buyer was fifteen minutes behind him. It was a well priced commodity. Anyone interested knew what it was, how it drove and what the local market price was before they arrived. I sold a Mazda Miata a few years ago in only slightly more time for the same reasons.

No Fiat 128 is a commodity. There are so few that they simply don't change hands very often so there is no market price. Their condition vary widely and many are modified. And then there are the "special" 128's like the wagon and 3P which are even more rare. It is easy to be worn down by lookers who show up at your door knowing little more than you have a cheap car to sell and must then be educated. The only ways I've know to get around that are to sell within a club or specialty car network of some kind such as BaT or to "place" the car with a family member who expects your continued maintenance support. Of those two options I highly recommend the former.

I think Carl's pricing is good fiat karma!
