reinstalling points

Post by Psgarre » Thu Nov 08, 2018 4:27 pm

Need some quick help. I have to pull out my electronic ignition because of a failure. In the mean time I need to reinstall my points. I have a 78 124 with the Marelli dual points system. I thought it would make sense how it went back in based on my notes but I think i am missing something. I am putting in one point and one condenser. My notes suggest all 3 wires, two from the coil and one from the condenser goes to the post on the point. Is that right? :? thanks. psg

Attached is the FAQ on the dual points that Thad Kirk wrote many years ago. It may help. You may also want to review the wiring diagrams in the library.

Take the green and green/black points wires coming from the harness and tape them back out of the way- Run a new wire from the negative side of the coil directly to the one wire coming from the points at the distributor. The Brown wire at the negative post fires the tach, so make sure it gets reinstalled. That's all you need. You will have to set the ignition timing upon completion of the task.
