131 oil sump breather

Post by revvy454 » Sat Dec 15, 2018 5:25 am

Hi Guys I've got a 131 and have installed twin downdraft Webbers so there is no place for the vacuum hose from breather to air cleaner.
So I've connected the breather hose to a catch can with a filter head exit. Does it still work OK or do I need the vacuum to relieve pressure? :) :)

Pressure helps but isn’t necessary. What air filters do you have? Most have a fitting for the crankcase breather.

Each of those filters has a breather port - it has a little black cap over. I can see each of them. The air filters would have come with a plastic piece, usually angled, to connect to the breather hose. You only need to connect one. Usually you need a smaller hose than the fiat breather is, so you just run the smaller hose that fits the adapter to the crankcase hose and rig up a reducer. You can usually the adapter and reducer at Home Depot.

What are those large L-shaped ports on the top of each manifold runner?

Agree with Brad that you don't need the factory vacuum line but there is a port on the #1 and #3 venturi for that vacuum line if you want to go that route.

Oh and I didn’t notice at first but you have crankcase emissions ports on the carb base. You can T the breather between the filter (big hose) and carb (angled port) if you want to get super accurate. Personally I’d just cap them off and use one breather port on one air filter. Works fine.

I’m curious as to your compression fittings on the manifold as well - equalizers?

Thanks Guys appreciate the info. The pressure fittings take hoses to a manifold that supplies vacuum to the brake booster. I took the car to my mechanic friend and he is satisfied with the oil can setup. I'm running oil catch can which is a requirement for car club runs on the track.

You don't need a four branch vacuum booster hose. All dual IDF manifolds just have one fitting off the #1 intake runner and the brakes work just fine.

Thanks Carl,
The Webber restoration guy and mechanic that tuned it on Dyno said that if I change the cams then with one vac line there will be not much vac on idle and low speed. I plan t do some club runs after a rebuild. Richard
